Can i color a lightbulb black or orange for a party ?

is it bad or possible to do so ? with any type of marker to give a room a spooky or dimmed affect ? i went to buy a black or orange bulb but they were like 10 bucks for 1 i wasnt tryin to pay that so can i just color one ?
