Replace CD Changer or Go mp3 Completely?

My 5 CD changer is about to give up the ghost. DH does not want to replace the system altogether so we have a standard stereo receiver (vintage very late 70s/early 80s...hey, at least I was finally able to get rid of the turntable and cette deck. lol). I was wondering what is a better option: 1) to get another CD changer, or 2) to load all my CDs onto a MP3 player, or better, onto a flash drive. Thoughts? Ideas? Brands? Links? Thanks.
