NHL 10 Tips for Scoring and Defense?

I just got the game today, obviously I'm not expecting to score 10 times in a game, but i had many opportunities to score, yet I'm having a hard time. Any tips on scoring/shooting? Also, defense is hard for me to stop the man with the puck...any tips for defense?
