Sims 2 exiting after loading screen!!!!!!!!!!?

I have the sims 2 base game (and the Glamour Life Stuff expansion pack) and it has always worked fine. Then, i think i was trying to download custom content from another site and i changed the 'open with' setting, and it wouldnt open the actual game (hard to explain). So I restored my comp to the day b4, when i wasn't having problems. It worked fine, so then i tried to open the game. It did open it this time, but only so far. I got past the maxis and ea logos, and demo ppl at the beginning, but after it was loaded about half way at the loading screen, it completely exited out with no error messege or anything. I tried to restart my computer, but everytime the same thing happened!!!! i dont wanna have to uninstall it and reinstall it because i have many hours of custom content downloads. HELPP MEE!!! thanx for reading all that. =]
